Gum Desease (Periodontics)
The main cause of the gum disease is the build up of plaque. This is more likely to happen if you find it difficult to clean your teeth well, for example if you wear braces or dentures, or have irregularities in your teeth that you can't reach with a toothbrush. There are other factors that can increase the chance of gum disease, These include: smoking, diabetes, hormonal changes, for example during pregnancy or puberty.
At Albert Place our course of treatment involves a large full mouth x-ray called an OPG and a full mouth periodontal assessment. This information gives us a baseline from which we can see improvement or indeed further deterioration. This will be followed by painless but intensive cleaning under local anaesthetic. It will be completed in two stages, you will be required to attend the surgery for a morning appointment and then also in the afternoon on the same day.
